Ode to Man

The Year was 2067

What would would the world look like at the end of mankind? This narrative-led project imagines a dystopian world where all of mankind have died – but one. A girl in a red dress, who secretly inhabits a mausoleum erected by a robotic species. Set in Baghdad, the mausoleum is decorated with poppy like structures

Its walls are embossed with Cuneiform and Kufic texts: the first human written script, and the first interplay between art and calligraphy in the Arab world, both of which began in Iraq. The robots engage with binary texts and laser codes, but misinterpret the last remaining human for a poppy. The geometry of the mausoleum is inspired by my grandmother’s home in Baghdad, where I first encountered death.
